The short version.

cat ~/about/summary.md

I have spent 20 years working in technology: 8 years as a software engineer and 14 years leading engineering teams, including mentoring other Engineering Managers.

I am a Senior Engineering Manager with 14+ years of experience leading software engineering teams, after 8 years as a software developer. As a leader of leaders, I have built and scaled multi-team engineering organisations, developed Engineering Managers, and led cross-functional teams across consumer products, SaaS, and engineering platforms.

I am particularly effective at bringing structure to ambiguity, restoring team health, strengthening ownership, and aligning engineering execution with product and business priorities. My leadership experience spans mobile, backend, and frontend platforms, observability, and collaborative SaaS products.

I am a product engineer at heart. I care about software engineering as a craft: quality at code and architecture level, product thinking, polished UI, and thoughtful UX.

I build autonomous, accountable teams that deliver quality software incrementally, learn from their mistakes, and have the support they need to grow. I am exploring AI-assisted development hands-on so I can understand the shift in our craft and help the teams I lead navigate it thoughtfully.

Kind words from people I've worked with

  1. I had the opportunity of having Paty as my Engineer Manager for over a year, and it was a great experience. She kept the team on track towards our goals, while maintaining open communication to strike a balance between the technical and product aspects. She created an environment of trust and collaboration, where everyone's voice was heard and where everyone would feel valued. Her genuine concern for her team members goes beyond professional aspects. Throughout my time working with Paty, she provided constructive feedback that contributed to my professional development. I am truly grateful to her and I highly recommend her as a manager.

  2. While working with the canvas core team, Paty was able to instill a profound sense of ownership and accountability within each member. She created an environment and the necessary methods for the team to feel empowered and take ownership of their tasks, fostering a culture of responsibility that significantly contributed to the success of the initiatives. Paty also played a significant role in equalizing participation and bridging knowledge gaps among the engineering team. Her effective communication skills helped ensure that everyone, regardless of experience or expertise, felt included, empowered and valued. For example, she introduced the feature captain role, which gave less senior members of the team, the opportunity to grow in their career. This contributed significantly to our team's adaptability and overall success. Another quality that makes her stand out from the rest of the engineering managers I've worked with was her ability to identify skills that needed improvement and her dedication to creating a clear path for individual growth. She took the time to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each team member. There was no single member that did not grow under her guidance. Paty also has a clear understanding of how to introduce changes gradually yet effectively. Her strategic approach to implementing new processes and methodologies ensured a smooth transition for the team. Through these changes, she streamlined our workflows, leading to a significant reduction in meeting times while elevating the overall level of ownership and efficiency of the team.

  3. When I joined Paty's team, I quickly discovered that it had a track reputation of being one of the highest performing teams at Mural. It was no surprise that this was due in no small part to her leadership and guidance. Everyone on the team - not just the engineers - worked well and had a high degree of trust for each other. That was the best indication to me that I had joined the right team, and more importantly, the right manager. In my direct experience, Paty is not only a highly effective manager herself, but where she really excels is in mentoring other managers (and aspiring managers such as myself). I learned a tremendous amount about management and leadership under Paty's guidance and by following her example. The quality that I admire most is her dedication to providing feedback regularly and consistently.

  4. I worked with Paty for a little over a year and over that time she has been one of the greatest managers I've ever had. She knows how to get her team to trust her so when she has to give any type of feedback it it really reaches whoever is on the other side. She's great at helping her team grow and the most important thing is that she cares about the people and about the team's goals and does magic to keep them in place and achievable.

  5. I've been working with Patricia for over a year and I've been quite impressed by her efficiency and diligence in carrying things out.For me, it was a pleasure to have someone you can discuss technical issues with, and project management issues as well. She always focuses hard to guarantee that both the project and the team succeed in their objectives. She is energetic, reliable, highly organised, trust-worthy ... An excellent manager for any company! I would not hesitate to work with her again.

  6. Patricia is the kind of team leader that every IT worker would want to work for. She has great abilities and techniques in team management, and the feature that I most value from her is the empathy with every team member, no matter the role they have, in part by her own experiences while moving on at Altran's career path that led her to the team leader role. I'm very proud of have been able to work with her and I would greatly recommend her!.

Away from the keyboard

Life off-hours

ls ~/life/beyond-work

A small window into the things that keep me curious, grounded, and inspired. And off-screen.

  • Books & imaginary worlds

I’m an introvert, so my idea of recharging usually involves being left alone with a book. Preferably somewhere that doesn’t exist. Lately, that means sci-fi, epic fantasy, dystopias... and yes, romantasy. I’m a proud FaeLover and I refuse to apologize for it. Turns out, throwing my hyperactive brain into someone else’s imaginary world is a pretty effective way to get it to shut up for a while.

  • Going places

I’ve seen a fair bit of the world, sometimes with company, sometimes on my own. I love both for different reasons. Shared adventures are more exciting and challenges feel a little less daunting. Travelling solo is different: you pay more attention, connect more easily with the people and places around you, and inevitably learn a thing or two about yourself along the way.

  • Foodie, no cooking

Food is one of my favourite ways to explore. New flavours, unfamiliar dishes, and getting a glimpse into a culture through what and how people eat. Living in a city with such a rich food scene helps. I obsessively catalogue places I love and places I want to try on Google Maps. At this point, that list is basically a treasure trove. I might start charging for access.

  • Mother of cats

Kiwi and Murri are family. Not my children, but certainly not less important. Two big cats with big personalities, weird little rituals, and the occasional not-so-little health problem. I care about them deeply, which means trying to understand their tiny furry brains, becoming suspiciously knowledgeable about feline health, and learning how to love them on their own terms.

  • Beyond the bottle

What fascinates me about wine is everything beyond drinking it. It’s this strange mix of art, craft and science, intrinsically tied to the land, its climate, its history and its people. I love learning how winemakers turn all of that into something you can pour into a glass. Conveniently, this obsession pairs extremely well with travelling and eating.

  • Serial hobbyist

I’m a serial hobbyist with two left hands. Crochet, painting by numbers, diamond painting... I love picking up something new, learning how it works, getting reasonably competent at it, and then inevitably finding the next thing to try. Arts and crafts give my engineering brain somewhere else to play. Kintsugi (金継ぎ) is currently on the backlog.
